Film schedule released! 4 days to go!

LONDON, ON – London’s installment of the Canadian Labour international Film Festival (CLiFF) will take place this Saturday, November 28th, 2009 at the Wolf Performance Hall (London Public Library – Downtown) at 3pm and 7pm. The three-hour long matinee and evening performances will show different films from across the country and around the world.

London will be part of the world’s first national film festival as screenings are simultaneous taking place at over 50 locations across the country on November 28-29, following the initial six-day film festival run in Toronto. Canada will be the first country in the world where towns, cities and villages are screening films for the same festival at the same time.

The festival will screen films about workers and the conditions under which they live, work, fight and succeed. London will screen 12 films selected from the dozens submitted from around the world. 10 are Canadian, with 1 each from the United States and the UK. Running times vary from feature-length to under three minutes. Two films from the National Film Board have been added to the list, recognizing the valuable contributions to labour films made by the NFB over the decades.

“The list of films that have been selected for screening in London focus on issues affecting those of us living in London and Southwestern Ontario”, says Chad O’Halloran, Coordinator for CLiFF-London. “We have films exploring conditions for migrant workers in outlying communities; the recent recession’s effect on the manufacturing sector, particularly auto workers; the effects of a plant closure on a community; issues surrounding the Public Employees strike in Windsor; and a film that shows the day in a life of a public bus driver.” Click to see the films that will be screened in London.

CLiFF-London is being hosted by London Occupational Safety & Health (LOSH), a local, charitable, non-profit organization committed to providing information and education on workplace injuries, disease and death. Tickets are free and are available in advance through LOSH, or at the door on a first-come, first-serve basis.
